John Austin Grogan
November 30, 1954 ~ August 13, 2015 (age 60) 60 Years OldJohn Austin Grogan, 60 years old of Niederwald, Texas passed away on Thursday August 13th, 2015 at Christopher House in Austin, Texas. John was born on November 30th, 1954 at Chateauroux, France, to Lamont Calvert and Catherine Higgins Grogan. John was a Licensed Nurse and had been a Corpsman in the United States Navy. He worked for the City of Austin Health Department – Immunizations. John was an expert at giving pain free shots and, at one time, he even gave a shot to Ann Richards, Governor of Texas.
John was raised in a military family and grew up around the world ultimately landing in Texas. He graduated from Lockhart High School and after a tour in the Navy, moved to Houston where he received his Nursing Degree at Herman Hospital Nursing School. In Houston, John met and married the love of his life and began his family. John was a devoted family man, an avid reader, music aficionado, culinary devotee and travel enthusiast.
John is survived by his wife of 33 years, Carol Grogan; his sons, Zachary Austin and Travis Calvert, his mother Catherine of Niederwald, brothers Martin and wife Joyce of Houston and Matthew of Niederwald, sister Harriet of Niederwald, several nieces, nephews and many more beloved family and friends. John was preceded in death by his father Lamont Sr. and brother Lamont II.
A celebration of his life will be held at the family home in Niederwald on November 28. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Reading is Fundamental or Christopher House - Austin
