Melvin Henry Alex

Melvin Henry Alex, age 90, of Lockhart, TX passed away on March 30, 2024. 

Melvin, known as Boop to his family, was born in Luling, Texas on November 1, 1933.  His parents were Henry Charles Alex and Gertrude Schreiber Alex of Luling.  Grandparents were Henry and Annie Alex from Luling and Theodore and Anna Schreiber of Moulton, Texas.

Preceding Melvin in death were his parents, grandparents, sisters Imelda (Roy) Bailey, Allyne (Charles) Pippus,  Anita, his brother, Bill and sister in law, Annie Mae Alex, along with two nephews and brother-in-law Beaver Pfefferkorn. 

Surviving Melvin is sister, Lillian Pfefferkorn of Lockhart, along with six nieces and seven nephews and special friends, Bill Rooksberry and Amanda Mayers.

Melvin attended school in Luling, Martindale and Lockhart, graduating from Lockhart High School in 1952 while living in Niederwald.   He first went to work as an auto mechanic at Carson Truck Shop in San Marcos, then worked at Gary Job Corps and Glosserman Chevrolet in Lockhart.  Melvin opened Alex and Schulze Garage in Lockhart in 1985 and operated that until 2021.  He spent many hours baling hay during that time. 

He served in the US Army from 1954 through 1956 where he enjoyed many experiences traveling in Europe.  He also served in the National Guard for many years.

The family will be accepting visitors from 6 -7pm at Eeds Funeral Home on Thursday, April 4.   The service will be on Friday, April 5 at 11am, also at Eeds Funeral Home followed by the burial in the Lockhart Municipal Burial Park. 

Serving as pallbearers will be nephews Hank Alex, Sam Alex, Billy Bailey, Ray Pfefferkorn along with great nephew, Jacob Alex, and friend Tony Harris.  Officiating will be Robert Morris of Alvin, Texas.
