William Samuel Harrison (85) passed away on January 11, 2024. He finally succumbed to his fight with cancer after two years. He was born on June 21, 1938 in Bradshaw Texas in his grandfather's house. William better known as Sam, was born to Willie Samuel Harrison and Mary Jane McCasland. He was a talented athlete who played football at W.R Ray High School in Corpus Christi, and then went to play football at Del Mar college in Corpus Christi for a short time. He then decided the Marines would be a better place for him. In the Marines, he drove a tank and played 6 man football. He received an honorable discharge and then finished his college career at McMurry college in Abilene, Texas. Sam graduated with a degree in physical education and math. He soon married his wife, Wyvonne Lipps, in 1964 and started his coaching career. His passion was coaching high school football and track. After he retired from 13 years of coaching in Lockhart, you could always find him at the golf course. He is survived by his wife, Wyvonne Harrison. Sister – Bobby Nelson, Brother-n-law Chuck Pugh. Children - Sami and Dave Hinson, Tanya and Scott Lloyd, Chris and Carrie Harrison. Grandchildren - Sarah and Lori Hinson, Jenna and Colby Lloyd, Megan and Brady Harrison. Honorary grandchildren - Courtney, Collin and Colton Penland and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Donna Ann Pugh.
Services will be held at Eeds Funeral Home on January, 14, 2024. A viewing will be held at 12:00 and services at 1:00. In lieu of flowers, please consider making donations to the Marine Corp Scholarship Foundation in Sam's name. MCSF.org
