Bill Grobowsky died peacefully at his home in Lockhart Texas of Alzheimer disease at the extraordinary age of 91. Bill was raised on the family farm in the German community of Neiderwald Texas and spoke only German when he started school. Bill met his best friend and the love of his life La Nelle Harris Waldrip while attending a dance at Roger's Ranch. They married on July 4th 1941. They had their only child Sandra Merle on January 22, 1943: There has never been anything more important to Bill than his family. He has been an incredible husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. We are all better people because he loved us. Bill and La Nelle were married 67 years before La Nelle's passing on November 24, 2008. We take great comfort in knowing they are together again. Bill retired from the Texas State Comptroller's Office after 20 years of service in 1981.BiII was an avid outdoors man. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, working in his yard and growing beautiful bougainvilleas. Bill and La Nelle loved to travel. Their favorite trips were to Las Vegas, Nevada. Bill was a very caring, gentle man with a strength we all envy. He always had a smile on his face, a good joke to share and love in his heart. To know him was to love him and to be loved by him was to feel safe, happy and cared for. There are not words to properly express how much he will be missed.
