Veechel Farrel passed away in the early morning hours of Friday, November 20, 2009. Veechel was 88 years old. She had various careers during her life, but she was always a mother and grandmother first. Her husband Edward H. Farrel preceded her in death February, 2001.
Veechel was born in Sayre, Oklahoma on May 3, 1921 to Mattie Hunt Shirley and Samuel Mack Shirley. She was the only daughter born to this union. She was the last sibling of seven children. Always one to speak her mind, she always had a laugh to go along with the comment - unless you were in trouble.
She was known by many people as "Shirley" because she "got tired of having to spell Veechel". To her family, she was simply Mama or Granny.
Veechel was the mother of two sons and their wives - Mack and Jean Farrel, Eddie and Molly Farrel. She was the grandmother of Sam Farrel and Edie McKelvey, Brenda and Kevin Johnson, Amy and Roger Cantwell, and Renata and Ron Logsdon. She was the great grandmother of Leslie Farrel-Davila, Annabelle and Madison Cantwell, Wesley Johnson, and Karen Farrel.
A visitation was held Monday, November 23, 2009, from eight a.m. to twelve o’clock at Eeds Funeral Home Chapel followed by a graveside service at one o'clock at Lockhart City Cemetery.

Added on Monday, November 23, 2009 by Magallon Family May you find the courage to face tomorrow in the love that surrounds you today. At this time of sorrow may these truths sustain you.....your loved one will always be as close as a memory and the God of all comfort is always as close as a prayer. It will be the little things that you will remember the quiet moments, the smiles, the laughter. And although it may seem hard right now, it will be the memory of these little things that help to push away the pain and bring the smiles back again. I have fought the fine fight, I have run the course to the finish, I have observed the faith.-2Timothy 4:7. As for me, I will lie down that I may sleep; I shall certainly awake, for Jehovah himself keeps supporting me. -Psalms 3:5
