Barbara Smith Obituary

Barbara Sue Smith died peacefully on Tuesday, October 6, 2020, surrounded by family after a brief illness.  She is survived by her daughters, Ravonda Mosebach (Stan) and Coral Morris, granddaughters Brittani Medina (Gabriel) and Shelby Villanueva (Tyler), grandson James Goin (Ashleigh) and great granddaughters Hailey Garcia and Ashtyn Villanueva. She is preceded in death by the love of her life, James Edward Smith, and her parents Charlie Thomas (Millie) and Naomi Dennis, step-sister Pat McBeth and step-brother Roy McBeth.

Barbara was born in Dallas, TX on September 12, 1943. She and her husband raised their family in Dallas County, TX before moving to Bastrop County, Texas in the 1980’s where she worked until retirement, then enjoyed spending time with her family.  She was affectionately known as Nanny to not only her family, but to anyone that had the honor of meeting her.  She was the matriarch of the family and was always there to lend a helping hand.  Though her words were few, they were meaningful.  She protected all those she loved and all those she felt were not treated fairly.  She displayed her strength by standing up for her beliefs and for those that could not stand up for themselves.  She earned the respect of many by living by example versus just words.

Nanny was well-known to do her household shopping in the early morning hours.  These shopping adventures usually turned into pure fun filled with many laughs and tears of joy.  She had a way of making you want to turn a bad moment into a great moment, regardless of the situation. Her kind smile and kind eyes made this world a better place.  She leaves behind many beautiful memories that will be cherished for a lifetime.

We welcome you to join us on Friday, October 23, 2020 at 2:00 pm at the Lytton Springs Cemetery, Memorial Drive, Lytton Springs, TX 78616 as we say our final goodbyes to Nanny and lay her to rest next to her lifetime love.  A reception will follow immediately after at the Lockhart/Caldwell County VFW, 7007 S. Hwy 183, Lockhart, TX 78644.
