OBITUARY
Christal Maxine Thompson-Eckford was born December 4, 1955 in Galveston, Texas to Winnie Florise Brite-Sanders. She was the first born of 9 children. She entered into eternal rest on June 28, 2022 at her home in Kyle, Texas.
Christal, also known as "Cookey", accepted Christ at an early age. She believed in the
Bible and tried to live her life by what was right as best she could. Throughout her life she attended Pentecostal Lighthouse Apostolc Church in Dale, Texas and attended Greenhill
Church of Christ in Lockhart,Texas.
On February 28, 1974 Cookey married Attley O. Eckford and of this union seven children were born. She grew up attending the public schools of West Texas and Lockhart, Texas. She obtained her GED in 1992 from Lockhart ISD. She attended the
Vogue School of Cosmetology in the 1990's and had a passion for styling her family,
friend and local residents hair. She started cooking at the age of 9 years old. Specializing in her famous Enchiladas and Tea Cakes. During her adult years, she became a caretaker working at the local nursing home and provided in-home services for those in need.
Cookey was a beautiful Mother to her children. She was the definition of strength and survival. A woman who knew how to make something out of nothing. She was a single parent and also helped raised her grandchildren. She would always put other before herself. She loved taking care of her elderly Mother, two Sisters and her son, "Lil Daddy' with Down Syndrome.
Christal was preceded in death by her Step-Father, Joe L. Sanders, Sr., Brothers: Kirk
Sanders, Charles Sanders, Ricky Sanders and Joe L. Sanders, Jr. One Sister: Judy Annette Sanders.
Christal leaves to cherish her memory - Her Mother: Winnie Florise Sanders, Sisters: Tammy Kimble and Patsy Sanders, Brother: Matthew D. Sanders, Husband: Attley O.
Eckford, Sr., Seven Children: Diane Sanders Wade (Elliot), Terrick Amon Eckford (hillary,
Angela Ann Eckford, LaTrisha Lee Eckford, Stephanie LeeAnn Eckford, Kirstie Denise
Graham, Attley O'Neil Eckford, Jr., Eleven Grandchildren: Devonte, MarQuise, Issaiah,
Jamal, Tanea, Quadre, Saema'j, Cedrick, Jaeda, Devin, Ehvan, and seven great gandchildren. She also leaves a Uncle, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and dear dear friends.
