Donald Barbour Crowe was born in Luling, Texas on December 1, 1940. He passed away on September 27, 2020 in Austin, Texas, where he lived with Doris, his highschool sweetheart and wife of 58 years. In the last few years of his life, Don suffered from dementia. On August 16, 2020, Don fell while at home and fractured his right hip. After surgery to repair the hip, he was unable to complete rehabilitation which contributed to his passing while staying at the Gracy Woods nursing facility.
He died peacefully with his family.
After growing up in Luling, Texas, he moved to Austin along with his parents E.B. and Jonell Crowe. He attended Southwest Texas State College in San Marcos, and later the University of Texas in Austin. Like his father E.B. and his brother Tommy, Don joined and served, active duty, in the U.S. Navy beginning in 1965. He served on the aircraft carrier USS Lexington out of Pensacola, Florida. After the completion of his time in the Navy in 1967, and now married, he and his wife moved back to Austin. There they had 2 children, Cindy Dale Crowe, born August 20, 1967, and Allen Barbour Crowe, born December 21, 1970. His daughter, Cindy, passed away on February 27, 2017. Don had one grandson, Ryan Barbour Crowe, born October 13, 2003.
After the Navy, Don took a job at Jefferson Chemical Company in Austin, Texas. The company soon changed names to Texaco Chemical Company and later to Huntsman Chemical. Don retired in December of 1999.
Don lived a long and happy life and enjoyed his family. He was active at his church, Rosedale Baptist Church, for many years where he served as a deacon. He worked hard and developed an expertise in everything he involved himself in. At the time of his passing, he and Doris were members of Hyde Park Baptist Church in Austin.
Don was a sweet man. He was loved, and will be missed by everyone who knew him.
