Norma Horner Obituary

 

Jean  Horner, 86, of Trenton, Texas, passed away on September 8, 2022 peacefully at home surrounded by family. She was born to parents Virginia and James Sims, on July 10, 1936 in Webster County, West Virginia.

 

Jean was 1 of 10 children, 5 boys and 5 girls and grew up and attended school in Cowen, West Virgina. She followed her older sisters to Baltimore, Maryland where she met and married Jim Horner, a young Engineer from Texas.     They were married on September 21,1957 in Halethorpe, Maryland.  Jim and Jean moved to Garland, Texas in 1963 and together they raised 2 children: Kim Bailey and Steve Horner.

 

Jean spent her entire adult life making a home for her family. She made sure her children got to piano lessons, sporting events and other interests. She was the neighborhood confidant, team mother, homeroom mother, den mother and she volunteered at O'Henry Elementary for 20+ years. She loved to sew eventually creating her own crafting business selling kitchen hand towels, baby blankets, baby towels and other assorted crafts. She also helped her husband with his own woodworking crafts by staining all of his creations and together they entered craft shows in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area and in other parts of Texas. Jim and Jean loved to travel, especially cruising with a stop in the St. Thomas VI. Another favorite pastime was combining Square Dancing and travelling eventually Square Dancing in 48 out of 50 states. When not cruising she loved to visit Port Aransas with the family and grandkids. She also loved to bet the ponies at Louisiana Downs.

 

Jean is survived by Husband Jim Horner of Trenton, Daughter Kim Bailey and her spouse Greg of Trenton, Son Steve Horner and his spouse Darla of Dallas, Grandson Chris Hanes and his spouse Mandy of Van Alstyne, Grandson Michael Horner of Dallas, Grandson Matthew Horner and spouse Grace of Dallas, Grandson Dustin Bailey and spouse Megan of Plano, Granddaughter Shanna Lynch and spouse Tim, Grandson Tony Bailey and wife Candance Oklahoma City, Great-grandchildren Madison and Colton Hanes, Tyler, Knox, Jaxon, Jessica, Brianna and Randi Bailey, Hannah, Brantley Lynch, Sister Retta Pease of Baltimore, Brother Charles Sims of Cowen, West Virginia and many nephews and nieces and friends.     

She was preceded in death by her father James Sims, mother Virginia Sims, sisters Dale, Velva, and  Georgie, brothers Junior, Bernard, Kenneth, and Bob, nephew Michael Pease, nephew Robert Wisian, and niece Deborah Wisian

           

The Family will host a celebration of life sometime in the future.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Shiners Hospitals.
