Rathers R. Asberry, Jr.

On Sunday, June 26, 2022, Rathers Asberry Jr., loving father, grandfather, and caretaker to many passed away at the age of 73. Rathers was born in Caldwell County, Texas on  December 22, 1948 to Beulah M. Johnson and Rathers Asberry Sr, who both preceded him in death.

Rathers graduated from Lockhart Independent School District. He accepted Christ at a very early age and remained very active in his home church, St. John United Baptist Church, until his passing. There, he served as a trustee, and gained notoriety as a member of the choir often being called upon to sing the classic tune  “You Can’t Hurry God”. He was also very active in his community and was often sought after to provide care for both the young and the elderly. He enjoyed viewing horror movies ranging from classics like Rosemary’s baby, which he watched with his two children, to modern day thrillers such as The Conjuring Trilogy. He was also an avid music lover and enjoyed dancing. Rathers had a great sense of humor invoking laughter to all those with which he crossed paths.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his three sisters, Billie Joyce Branch, Jannie Ray Asberry, and Brenda Joyce Asberry. He is survived by his two children, Natasha (Donnie) Asberry -Combs, Rathers Asberry, two grandchildren, Liberty Asberry and Savannah Combs, his brother Mack Allen Asberry, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and a godson.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, July 8, 2022 at First Baptist Church on Neches Street, Lockhart, TX at 11 o’clock a.m. The funeral service is mask-required.
