Wanda Louise Long

September 8, 1943 – January 19, 2024

Wanda Louise Long, a cherished resident at Chisolm Trail Nursing & Rehab Center of Lockhart, TX, peacefully passed away on January 19, 2024.  She was 80 years old.

A genuine “unicorn” Austinite, Wanda was born in Austin, TX, on September 8, 1943.  However, her formative years were spent in Seadrift, TX, where her grandfather, father, and brother were employed in the local plants.  Meanwhile, her grandmother and mother were actively engaged in church and social organizations.  The first high school graduate in her family, Wanda proudly graduated in 1961 from Calhoun High School in Port Lavaca, TX.

Although preceded in death by her parents, J.W. and Louise Josephine Long, and her brother John Daniel Long, Wanda is survived by her three children: John Matthews and his wife, Amee; Jared Matthews and his wife, Misty; and Donna Jones and her husband, Randy.  Additionally, she leaves behind six grandchildren, Jonathan and Joseph Matthews, Aela and Aubree Matthews, and Sage and AJ Billiot.

Wanda dedicated a significant portion of her career as an Administrative Professional at Tracor and Sematech.  Post-retirement, she found joy in retail management and eventually became the Owner/Operator of Fisherman's Paradise Bait and Tackle LLC.  Her passion for fishing and jewelry making filled her days, and she reveled in sharing these moments with friends and family.

Per her request, a simple, private Celebration of Life will be held by her children at an appropriate time.
