John Charles Stebe
October 26, 1950 ~ January 15, 2016 (age 65) 65 Years OldJohn Charles Stebe was born to John and Anna Stebe in East Meadow, New York on October 26, 1950. He grew up with five brothers and four sisters in North Bellmore, New York. After graduating from Calhoun High School in 1969 he was drafted into the US army. He was discharged shortly thereafter with a "hardship discharge" to help his mother take care of his nine siblings because his father was disabled and sick.
John married his first wife, Kathleen Teller in 1972, with whom he had Lisa and Joseph Stebe. He relocated to Texas in 1977. John met Judy Meister and then married in 2000 and settled in Lockhart, Texas, where he became a stepfather to Cindy Davenport and Dennis Meister. John and Judy had many friends in their home town of Lockhart. They had a great social circle in which they enjoyed gathering each week. John and Judy especially enjoyed dancing; John could teach anyone how to county dance. Growing up in a large family made John into the social and caring person he was.
John was an exceptional craftsman. He was loyal to his work and put his heart and soul into everything he created. Much of his work is seen in households and buildings throughout Austin and its surrounding areas, including the state capital.
John was a loving and devoted family man. He is survived by his wife Judy, daughter Lisa Stebe, son Joseph Stebe, stepdaughter Cindy Davenport, stepson Dennis Meister, his mother Anna Stebe, eight brothers and sisters, five grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He enjoyed spending time with friends and family every chance he could. He will be remembered and missed by many.
