Gloria Monette Smith, aged 89, died peacefully on September 12, 2015 at her daughter’s home in Canyon Lake, Texas. Gloria was born September 14, 1925, in Jefferson County, Alabama, the daughter of Rev. Foster H. Mills and Molly E. Shamblin.

Gloria thoroughly enjoyed writing poetry, painting, gardening, and dancing.

In 1944, Gloria married the love of her life Harry LaVerne Smith.  Gloria worked as a Substitute Teacher at Texas City High School in addition to raising their five children.

Gloria was a member of University Baptist Church and was an active member.

Gloria was preceded in death by: her loving husband of 58 years, Harry LaVerne Smith, parents: Foster & Molly Shamblin Mills, daughter: Carol LaVerne Smith, son: Kenneth Foster Smith; sister: Dorothy “Dean” Gregory & W.S, brother: Truett Purser Mills & Nellie.

Gloria is survived by her Children: Gary Alan Smith & wife, Roxane of Red Rock; Bruce Milton Smith & wife, Diane of League City; daughter-in-law, Paula Jo Smith, from Alvin; Cynthia Evon Smith Hanson & husband, Roger of Canyon Lake; Jeffrey Vance Smith & wife, Mary of Boerne; Grandchildren: Cris Werner, Kyle Werner, Misty Ward, Crystal Shock, Summer Oliver, Chad Smith, Eric Smith, Brianna Smith, Foster Smith, Kara Hanson, Luke Hanson, Aly Damiani, and Vance Smith; 15 Great-Grandchildren; and three Precious Nieces; and a number of other relatives and close friends.

 

Funeral Services for Gloria Smith will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Wednesday, the 16th day of September, at University Baptist Church, Houston, with Rev. Rick Carpenter officiating.  A Graveside Service and Interment will be at Forest Park East in Webster, Texas, immediately following the Funeral Service.
